If you're planning a trip to the Dolomites this summer, don't miss the new exhibition "From Dinosaurs to Mammoths – The Story Continues", taking place in Auronzo di Cadore from 27 June to 30 September 2026.
Following the success of last year's exhibition, this new edition explores the world after the extinction of the dinosaurs, when mammals became the dominant species on Earth. Visitors can discover life-sized models of prehistoric animals, including the woolly mammoth, saber-toothed tiger, cave bear, giant ground sloth, and Paraceratherium (Indricotherium) – the largest land mammal ever to walk the Earth.
The exhibition is divided into two parts. Along the shores of Lake Santa Caterina, visitors can enjoy an outdoor display of prehistoric animals set against the spectacular backdrop of the Dolomites.
The second part is located inside Palazzo Corte Metto Museum, where interactive displays explain the evolution of mammals, climate change through prehistoric times, and even the domestication of the wolf into today's dog.The exhibition also highlights the rich paleontological heritage of the Veneto region. Fossil remains of woolly mammoths, cave bears, woolly rhinoceroses and other Ice Age animals have been discovered in several parts of the region, making this exhibition closely connected to the area's natural history.Visitor Information
